79 MILES - 6,500’

Fremont Pass, Tennessee Pass, and Vail Pass

THE COURSE

The  Copper Triangle course is a spectacular 79-mile loop that crests three Colorado mountain passes – Fremont Pass (elevation 11,318’), Tennessee Pass (elevation 10,424’) and Vail Pass (elevation 10,666’). The route incorporates three ski areas, is littered with historic mining outposts and includes Camp Hale, the training ground for the famous 10th Mountain Division. The total elevation gain for the course is 6,500 ft.

Open roads - ride safe!

Copper Triangle is held on open roads with vehicular traffic and marked and unmarked hazards. Though we go to great lengths to make the event as safe as possible, you are only as safe as you ride. Please ride carefully when descending Fremont Pass, Tennessee Pass, Battle Mountain and Vail Pass. There are steep descents, tight curves and the road conditions vary from good to poor.  Use caution and control your speed

Bag Drop

Get ready for a seamless cycling experience! If you pay for our bag drop service when registering, you will receive a drop bag with your credentials at check-in. Simply jot down your name and bib number on the bag, carry it with you to Aid Station 2 (Ski Cooper), and then free yourself of any garments you no longer wish to wear or carry. Leave your bag at the designated drop area and we will move your belongings forward to the finish. Easy as a downhill ride!

RIDE START

Please plan to start your ride between 6:00 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. All cyclists MUST be on the road by 8 a.m. We encourage everyone to begin early to avoid Colorado’s traditional afternoon mountain thunderstorms and highway traffic.

Colorado State Patrol does not permit anyone to start before these posted times, however, if you find yourself riding before first light you must have both a front and backlight on your bike.

AID STATIONS

There are five aid stations along the course, each one stocked with hydration drink mix, water, fresh fruit, and snacks of both the salty and sweet variety. Enjoy!

VAIL PASS SAGS

If you are unable to make it over Vail Pass, our sag vehicles can take you to the top of Vail Pass. In order to pick up the sag, please stop at the parking lot just beyond the East Vail exit.

SAG SUPPORT

Sag wagons will be available to assist cyclists who are experiencing mechanical trouble or those who become too fatigued to finish. Please be prepared to handle your own flats and minor repairs.

PRIVATE SAGS

For the safety of all riders, private sag vehicles are NOT permitted on the course.
