It’s more fun when you are fit

Hi riders!

Coach Frank here, to share some training advice with you for any of The Ride Collective’s excellent events.  As we like to say, “it’s more fun when you are fit,” and that all starts by riding consistently. 

I've studied physiology and coached athletes from Olympians to everyday riders for 20 years, and I’m here to tell you that the number one thing you can do to improve your training is simply by riding consistency. Ride your bike at least three days per week; do four days per week if you have the time, and try for five days per week if you have big goals. 

Riding regularly starting in May will give you the base to take your training to the next level in June and July. To get started we have designed a simple, fun, and effective training plan for you that has five days of riding per week with two rest days. It’s called Sweet Spot Part 1 and it works! During the work week, there are short interval workouts that are about an hour long, and then there are fun endurance rides on the weekends. You can follow the plans indoors, outdoors or a mix of both. To follow the plan, you can use either a power meter, or a heart rate monitor, or you can work off your perceived exertion (how hard you think you're working, on a scale of 1-10).

Follow the plan as consistently as you can but be flexible with yourself and the schedule. You can double down and get more serious in June.  For now, riding regularly is the name of the game.
